WordPress 5.0- First Look
Wordpress just recently released version 5.0 of its platform featuring exciting new improvements and major changes. The newest addition is a flexible block-based editor, dubbed Gutenberg, that will offer users a streamlined editing experience. While we are keen to update all of our clients we have been testing several new functions in house to ensure that updates are smooth.
Wordpress 5.0 is a radical change to the process of content creation. Let’s take a look at some of the exciting new features you can expect with Gutenberg.
The block-based editor gives you a fresh editing experience by allowing you to insert any multimedia and the freedom to rearrange as you like. With individual blocks for each piece of content, you can expect a more consistent look and feel.
Other benefits that come with the blocks include protection from accidental edits and a speedy development process. Blocks allow you to change your content directly and ensure there are no accidental code edits. Developers can control the output resulting in polished and semantic markups. I addition, Gutenberg comes with a variety of APIs and different interface components.
Twenty Nineteen-A New Theme
The stunning new theme, Twenty Nineteen, allows you to retain your content editor on the front of your site. The layout is simple and type-driven and uses system fonts for increased loading speed. The modern, minimalistic design is quite versatile supporting personal photo blogs or even young new business.
Wordpress users can now customise their text by size, text colour, and even background colour. These formatting options will make content creation an exciting process.
Live HTML Preview
This nifty feature allows users to add custom HTML into the post body as needed. Previous versions required users to toggle between editor and preview. however, with Gutenberg, you can preview your post as you compose it.
Key changes in Word Press 5.0 also include:
- Word and block count
- Table of contents
- Anchor support
- Separate block to embed social profiles
- PHP 7.3 Support
- WooCommerce dashboard update
Why Upgrade to Gutenberg?
As a user, the classic editor can limit your site’s performance in terms of speed and editor restrictions. Users have to know basic coding skills, or engage a professional, to develop the site enough to give visitors an exciting reading experience.
With Gutenberg, the blocks present a wide variety in the content that you can add to a page. It is also easier to learn than the classic editor because it is a familiar editor.
With Gutenberg, WYSIWYG, you can create content in context. In addition, the new editor gives WordPress sites a competitive edge by making it easier for users to build their sites.
The downside? WordPress 5.0 is a major update and there might be some compatibility issues with existing themes and plugins. However, users always have the option of switching back to the classic editor.
